Boy am I excited. The month of December I'll be attending two seminars. The first one is Bridget Carlson. She is a top obedience competitor who has competed at the AKC Nationals and at Crufts with a traditional breed and a nontraditional breed. She strives to train her dogs for enthusiasm, animation, and precision. Her website shows videos of several breeds being successful. The Newfie blows me away.
The following weekend I'll attend Linda Koutsky's seminar in New Jersey. Her training has been influenced by Sylvia Bishop. She has a border collie named Tilt that comes from the Hob Knob kennel. It will be interesting to see what she does for a small brachycelphalic breed, a pug.
This past weekend I took the pugs to a show-n-go in Red Lion, PA. It was a blast. Jasper's tail was up, he was confident, and thoroughly enjoying himself. Little Sidney cracks me up. He has such drive. He's just so darn fast. I love the speed of his recalls, retrieves, and jumps. His heeling is so flashy. He has great extention of his legs. When heeling, I feel like I'm driving a Porche.
Jesse I wish I had your knowledge and expertise. Sidney could really be a star in agility too.

You should give agility a try with Sidney, everyone starts somewhere and you know about training, so you're already ahead!
Eight years ago I was brand new to the sport of obedience. Bailey and Jasper are actually my mom's dogs. I co-own them. They live with my mother in the beginning. I was responsible for their training. I was so green. I've learned so much through seminars, private lessons with a top trainer, reading books & magazines, and buying DVD's. I admit I'm a perfectionist and I'm competitive.
Since my mother's health has declined several years ago, I've been living with her and helping her out. So now Jasper and Sidney think I'm their mommy. I do everything feed, baths, trim nails, groom, take to the vet, play, walks/hikes, car rides, train, cuddle, and sleep with them.
There isn't anyone in my area that does agility well. I took a 6 week course from a person locally. She taught you each obstacle. The last week she set up a little course. I video taped my guys and put it on you tube. She didn't talk about drive, speed, motivating your dog. So I wouldn't want to go back. I would want to learn from someone who is really good. That's why I haven't delved into the sport. I use to do 3 day eventing and dressage with my horse. I got such a rush from that sport. Agility reminds me of it.
Sidney has a lot of natural talent. I'll probably end up dabbling in agility on my own. I'm thinking about starting with weave poles. I like the 2x2 method that Susan Garette uses. Sidney can jump anything. So I would need to learn front and rear crosses to set him up for the jumps. He loves his tunnel. To teach him to drive over the broad jump in obedience, I put a tunnel right behind it so he drives over the jump with speed and goes through the tunnel. There is much too learn in agility.
